Small
Claims is a subdivision of the Civil Division which seeks to resolve minor disputes
quickly, inexpensively and fairly. Although attorneys can be retained by the
plaintiff or defendant, small claims cases can be filed without legal representation.
Incorporated businesses filing small claims cases, however, must have legal
representation. Youngstown Municipal Court Small Claims judgements are rendered
by a magistrate, appointed by the Municipal Judges.
